Why Me?

One of the lingering questions we always have is "Why Me?" We always wonder why are we going through this? Why me? Why not someone else? Why is everyone else's life so perfect? Why is God not distributing problems but making me suffer one after another and that it never seems to end? Is he punishing me? Why do I have to endure so much? There are a lot of 'Why's for which we don't have any answer.

There are times when I am very angry with God, so angry that I wouldn't even look at his picture, pray, read the bible or go to church. It is in one such time that he lead me to this passage in John 9:1-7 which reads

9 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. 5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

6 After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. 7 “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.

It was comforting to read that our problems are not always a punishment or God testing us. As we read in the above passage, the man was not blind because of his own fault or anything that his parents did. He was born blind so that Jesus could perform the miracle on him and God can be glorified.

Imagine yourself being born blind, what all would you have had to endure and what you would have missed out. Now, imagine what that man would have had to go through born blind or what his parents would have gone through to have a blind child. Wonder how old the man was and how many years he had to go through before Jesus performed the miracle. Because of his disability he probably would have had to go through a lot of problems. He would not have had a normal childhood or teen years like other children or lead a normal life like other people.

We don't always have the answers for "Why me?" but we can at least be comforted and think that God is using us and our situations for HIS glory. Finally, everyone's goal is that we go to heaven and live eternally one with God. In moments like these, hold on to your faith so that we can be with him in paradise. It's ok to be angry with God, fearful or sad, he understands that and he is not a God who punishes people but never give up on loving God or loose your faith in God .Think that God chose us for HIS purpose even though we don't like it, obviously we would have preferred someone else picked than us so that we don't have to suffer!

It doesn’t seem fair that the wicked succeed when the righteous struggle, but we can’t judge prosperity by the world’s standards. Much of what society considers success is temporary and shallow. God offers lasting rewards. He gives joy that overflows in spite of circumstances. He grants abundant peace in the midst of chaos. He offers comfort when we grieve and guides us when we are lost. We serve a God who knows everything about us and still loves us. That same God understands the desires of our hearts. How then can we compare material goods or fame with a loving God such as this? There is no contest!
